Development An Amperometric Microbial-enzyme Hybrid Cholesterol Biosensor Based On Ionic Liquid MWCNT Carbon Paste Electrode

In this study we report the development of an amperometric cholesterol biosensor based on cholesterol oxidase from Pseudomonas sp. and catalase immobilized in carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and ionic liquid (IL). The working electrode (CPE/MWCNT-IL/Microorganism (MO)-Catalase) was characterized by impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry at different stages of its construction. This proposed cholesterol biosensor performed linear relationship in the range of 5–600 μM with a low detection limit of 1.52 μM. The biosensor showed good sensitivity and high selectivity and it was successfully applied for the measurement of cholesterol levels in lyophilized serum samples.     

(<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>)-2-[(2-Bromophenylimino)methyl]-5-methoxyphenol: X-ray and DFT-calculated structures

The crystal structure of (E)-2-[(2-Bromophenylimino)methyl]-5-methoxyphenol is determined by using X-ray diffraction and then the molecular structure is investigated with density functional theory (DFT). X-Ray study shows that the title compound has a strong intramolecular O-H…N hydrogen bond and three dimensional crystal structure is primarily determined by C-H…π and weak van der Waals interactions. The strong O-H…N bond is an evidence of the preference for the phenol-imine tautomeric form in the solid state. Optimized molecular geometry is calculated with DFT at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level. The IR spectra of compound were recorded experimentally and calculated to compare with each other. The results from both experiment and theoretical calculations are compared in this study.     

The temperature-dependent phase diagrams of the spin-3/2 Ising model on a FM/AFM two-layer lattice with a crystal field

The temperature-dependent phase diagrams of the spin-3/2 Ising model on a two-layer Bethe lattice with ferromagnetic (FM)/antiferromagnetic (AFM) intra-layer and either FM or AFM type inter-layer interactions are investigated under a constant magnetic field (H) and in the presence of a crystal field (D) by using exact recursion equations in a pairwise approach for coordination numbers q=3,4 and 6, in detail. In the light of the ground-state (GS) phase diagrams, the temperature-dependent phase diagrams of the model are obtained by studying the thermal variations of the order parameters, response functions and free energy. Then, they are illustrated on the (kT/J₁,J₃/J₁) and (kT/J₁,J₂/J₁) planes for the given system parameters. It is observed that the system exhibits first- and second-order phase transitions for all q values, and hence, in some cases, tricritical points. The existence of critical-end points and that of isolated points are also observed. The re-entrant behavior owes its presence to the two Néel temperatures, T_N, that are present for all q.     

Lubricant properties of Moringa oil using thermal and tribological techniques

The increasing application of biobased lubricants could significantly reduce environmental pollution and contribute to the replacement of petroleum base oils. Vegetable oils are recognized as rapidly biodegradable and are thus promising candidates for use as base fluids in formulation of environment friendly lubricants. Although many vegetable oils have excellent lubricity, they often have poor oxidation and low temperature stability. Here in, we report the lubricant potential of Moringa oil, which has 74% oleic acid content and thus possess improved oxidation stability over many other natural oils. For comparison, Jatropha oil, cottonseed oil, canola oil and sunflower oil were also studied. Among these oils, Moringa oil exhibits the highest thermo-oxidative stability measured using PDSC and TG. Canola oil demonstrated superior low temperature stability as measured using cryogenic DSC, pour point and cloud point measurements. The friction and wear properties were measured using HFRR. Overall, it was concluded that Moringa oil has potential in formulation of industrial fluids for high temperature applications. Names are necessary to report factually on available data; however, the USDA neither guarantees nor warrants the standard of the product, and the use of the name by USDA implies no approval of the product to the exclusion of others that may also be suitable.     

Pricing American options for jump diffusions by iterating optimal stopping problems for diffusions

We approximate the price of the American put for jump diffusions by a sequence of functions, which are computed iteratively. This sequence converges to the price function uniformly and exponentially fast. Each element of the approximating sequence solves an optimal stopping problem for geometric Brownian motion, and can be numerically computed using the classical finite difference methods. We prove the convergence of this numerical scheme and present examples to illustrate its performance.     

Optimal investment strategy to minimize occupation time

We find the optimal investment strategy to minimize the expected time that an individual’s wealth stays below zero, the so-called occupation time. The individual consumes at a constant rate and invests in a Black-Scholes financial market consisting of one riskless and one risky asset, with the risky asset’s price process following a geometric Brownian motion. We also consider an extension of this problem by penalizing the occupation time for the degree to which wealth is negative.     

Some general univalence criteria for a family of integral operators

The main object of the present paper is to discuss some extensions of univalence conditions for a family of integral operators. Several other closely-related results are also considered. Many known univalence conditions are shown to follow upon specializing the parameters involved in our main results.
